What is a Femme Fatale?
Much like the term Noir, Femme Fatale is French. It roughly translates to deadly, or dangerous woman. Generally in Film Noir, the femme fatale is presented as an attractive woman who seduces men using her looks and beauty, however she is usually only doing it for personal gain, making hr somewhat of a lone wolf character. They are also always very mysterious and not much is revealed about their background, or if the protagonist can trust them.
The femme fatale has a distinct wardrobe. She often would wear a dress that is either red or black, both are colours associated with danger and also help her stand out from other characters. She would also have long black hair and wear bright red lipstick to match her dress. Another common trope for a femme fatale is to be smoking a cigarette, which gives them an additional air of danger.

(above Sean Young as Rachel in the 1982 Ridley Scott film Blade Runner is often considered the best example of a femme fatale)
